Call of Duty 2026 has finally confirmed the long-rumored Modern Warfare storyline. Statements from Activision and Infinity Ward indicate that this year’s game will return to one of the series’ most iconic themes. The new game will not only be a sequel; according to Infinity Ward, it will be a more ambitious project aiming to redefine the Modern Warfare formula.

Infinity Ward used the phrase “definitive Modern Warfare” for the new game. This suggests that the studio is not just preparing a classic Modern Warfare sequel, but also wants to take the series’ combat feel, pace, and cinematic action structure to a stronger level. The official title of the game has not yet been shared, but it is now clear that the Modern Warfare brand will be central to Call of Duty 2026.
Infinity Ward’s new leaders, Mark Grigsby and Jack O’Hara, stated in their announcement that the studio is focused on producing intense, immersive, and impactful combat experiences. O’Hara has served as a producer on Call of Duty projects for many years, while Grigsby is an experienced name who has made significant contributions to animation in the series since 2005. This new era under their leadership also marks a new beginning for Infinity Ward.
It was previously confirmed that this year’s Call of Duty will surpass previous generation consoles. Therefore, the game will not be released for PS4 and Xbox One. This decision may indicate a more ambitious technical experience. Especially considering the decline in Call of Duty player numbers in recent years and Black Ops 7’s failure to meet expectations, it’s clear that Activision and Xbox are bearing a significant burden with this new game.
