First Details About Death Stranding 3

Hideo Kojima made remarkable statements about the future of the series while answering questions at a special preview event for Death Stranding 2. Speaking about why the new game is set in Australia after the first game took place in America, Kojima stated that this change offers a more logical and fresh approach in terms of story. This geographical change may also offer new areas for the future parts of the series.

Kojima mentioned a passage system called “Plate Gate” that will be included in the second game. Thanks to this structure, characters can move to different continents. According to Kojima, this mechanic gives the series unlimited sequel possibilities. In other words, Death Stranding 3 can appear on a brand new continent, with a different narrative and completely different atmospheres. The existence of this system opens new doors in terms of both narrative and game structure.

Although the sequel idea is ready, Kojima stated that he will not be making the third game himself. He said, “If I transfer this idea to someone else, they can continue it,” and expressed that he is open to handing over the project to someone else. This statement gives clues that the Death Stranding universe can be continued by a different creative team. In this way, the series can continue on its path with different interpretations while remaining true to Kojima’s vision.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released for PlayStation 5 on June 26. The game’s new ten-minute trailer, shown at SXSW, also introduced Luca Marinelli’s striking character, “Fake Snake.” The second game promises to offer an expanded experience in both visual and narrative terms, while the talk of a third game is already beginning to show the interest in the series.
