Disco Elysium Studio Finally Unveils Its New Game
ZA/UM studio behind Disco Elysium, one of the most popular RPG games of recent years, has announced its new game after a long silence. However, contrary to expectations, this new production is not Disco Elysium 2. The game called Project C4 is an espionage-themed RPG. ZA/UM announced that it was inspired by the works of John le Carré, known for his espionage stories, and that the game will have a darker and more strategic structure.
Disco Elysium Producers’ New Game Project C4
In Project C4, players will control an agent (Operant) working for a corrupt global power. The game’s story takes place in a world where minds have become battlefields. According to ZA/UM’s press release, elements such as mental manipulation, psychological struggle, and even consciousness-altering substances constitute the game’s basic mechanics. The studio stated that players will try to survive not only in the physical world but also in the mental dimension.
The game aims to tackle the concept of failure from a different perspective. The developers stated that they plan to make players’ moments of failure an entertaining experience. Jim Ashilevi and Siim Sinamäe from Disco Elysium’s writing team said that the game will use failures as a learning process and that it will differentiate itself from other RPGs in this respect.
ZA/UM has been in a position of attention due to the internal problems experienced in the studio in recent years. After Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov and Helen Hindpere left Disco Elysium’s creative team, the studio experienced major changes. Legal disputes and accusations within the team raised questions about the studio’s future.
More information about Project C4 will be shared at the GDC (Game Developers Conference) event to be held this week. ZA/UM’s new game seems to reflect both the studio’s past problems and its new vision. An experience full of espionage, betrayal and dark stories awaits players.
