Dying Light Director Leaves Techland After 13 Years

A significant departure has occurred at Techland, closely affecting the Dying Light series. Tymon Smektala, who has worked at the studio for many years and recently held the position of Franchise Director for the series, announced his departure from the company. Smektala joined Techland in 2013 and played important roles in the development of the series from the first Dying Light game onwards.

A New Era Begins for Dying Light

In a statement made on social media, Tymon Smektala said that he is opening a new chapter after many years with Dying Light. Thanking the development and publishing teams he worked with at Techland, Smektala stated that they worked together to make the series the “ultimate zombie experience.” He also emphasized that the love, support, and feedback of the Dying Light community have always been guiding for the series.

Smektala began his Techland career in May 2013 as a game designer. He later joined the production team for the first Dying Light game and gradually became one of the most visible figures in the series. For the last four years or so, he has served as Franchise Director, responsible for the entire Dying Light brand.

His last major role in this position was leading the launch of Dying Light: The Beast. This game opened a new chapter in the Dying Light universe by bringing the series’ first main character, Kyle Crane, back to the forefront. It was previously reported that Smektala considered this project almost like Dying Light 3 within the studio.

Smektala has not yet announced his next destination. However, he stated that the Dying Light series is in good hands and that he is excited to experience the next installments as a player. While this departure represents a significant change for Techland, the message that the studio will continue to grow the Dying Light brand remains for now.
