Fallout: The New West Revives the Van Buren Project
The project’s developer, United West Team, aims to revive one of the most anticipated canceled projects in Fallout history. Fallout: The New West is envisioned as a modern remake of the Fallout: Van Buren project, which was developed and shelved years ago. Van Buren was a project planned before Bethesda acquired the Fallout brand and which many fans consider the “original Fallout 3.”
This mod isn’t actually a small content pack. It’s being developed as a large-scale total conversion project for Fallout: New Vegas. Instead of simply adding a few quests, it aims to offer a wealth of content, including new characters, new story segments, different equipment, and unique locations.
The “Tibbets Alternate Start” demo shown in the new trailer serves as a small preview of this larger project. Players can start the game with an alternate character backstory beginning in Tibbets Prison. The demo also reveals the direction of the mod by showcasing new equipment, some characters, and the first hints of the story.
For Fallout fans, the Van Buren project has been a subject of curiosity for years. Fallout: The New West stands out as an ambitious fan project showing what this lost game might look like. An early version of the mod is already available for download, and the development team continues to work on the full version.
