The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum was showered with negative criticism with its release. After these comments, the company issued an apology and tried to improve the game and fix its mistakes. However, it must not have achieved the desired result that Daedalic Entertainment decided to completely withdraw from the game development business.

Of course, the closure of a game company is always a loss for us gamers, and it shows that Daedalic will not take such a risk again.

Daedalic, who gave an interview to a German site about the closure of the department, confirmed that 25 employees will be affected by the closure. Although their relations with the company will not be severed, they will be transferred to different units. “We value every member of our team and it is important that the transition goes as smoothly as possible,” management said, adding that “we encourage our former employees to support them in finding new opportunities within our network.”

Daedalic is also halting work on the other Lord of the Rings game it has been developing since 2022. Gollum will continue to receive patches as needed, including a patch “currently in the works”.

Gollum currently ranks as the worst-rated game of 2023 on Metacritic and Opencritic.
