GTA 6 Trailers Are The Polished Version of the Game

Everyone who watched the GTA 6 trailers had a similar question in mind: “Will the game really look like this?” We know Rockstar is a studio that constantly raises the bar, so the level of detail in the trailers was quite exciting for players. The fact that the second trailer was said to contain gameplay further strengthened this expectation. However, behind-the-scenes comments offer a more realistic perspective on how these images are prepared, reminding us that expectations should be kept more balanced.

GTA 6 Trailers May Not Fully Reflect the Real Game Experience

David O’Reilly, an environment artist who previously worked on Grand Theft Auto VI, touches on an important point regarding the trailer preparation process. According to him, the developers specifically select the scenes to be shown in the trailers and add extra detail to these areas. In other words, while everything the camera sees is presented “at its best,” the overall view the player will encounter in the game may not be at the same level.

This situation isn’t actually that unfamiliar in the gaming world. Many studios highlight the best lighting, cleanest textures, and most impressive moments in their promotional videos. This is precisely where O’Reilly’s point comes in: trailers represent the best versions of specific sections of the game, rather than the game as a whole. This naturally means there may be small differences between what players see and the experience they will actually have.

On the other hand, these statements don’t mean the game’s visual quality will be low. Looking at Rockstar’s past projects, there’s already a strong sense of confidence in their overall quality. However, the real issue here is how realistic the “it will always look like this” perception created by the trailers is.

While trailers continue to generate excitement, comments like these bring players’ expectations down to a more grounded level. Especially with a project this large, it’s necessary to consider both what is shown and what isn’t.
