Man of Tomorrow will be a Story of Hope and Heroism
Man of Tomorrow is slowly taking shape as one of the most important projects to expand James Gunn’s new Superman era. Gunn shared a short video providing an update on the film’s production process, stating that the project is now “in the depths.” According to the director, the film will be a Superman story built on hope, heroism, and pure visual splendor. Clearly, this description also shows how Gunn wants to position Superman in the new DC universe.
Man of Tomorrow Will Bring Superman and Lex Luthor Together
Filming is reportedly still underway in Atlanta, Georgia. While not many new images have emerged from the set recently, previously leaked photos suggested a fierce confrontation between David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. Scenes where Lex confronts Superman in his practical Warsuit armor suggest that the tension between the two will be escalated to a larger scale in this film.
Interestingly, Man of Tomorrow won’t just be about the classic rivalry between Superman and Lex. According to James Gunn’s previous statements, the story will focus on Clark Kent and Lex Luthor putting aside their differences to defend the planet against the Brainiac threat. This idea sounds very strong because the forced alliance between Superman and Lex holds great potential in terms of both action and character conflict.
The cast is also becoming increasingly impressive. Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Maria Gabriella de Faria as The Engineer. Aaron Pierre will also reprise his role as John Stewart from the Lanterns series. Adria Arjona is in the cast as Maxima; however, fans are speculating that she might actually be Wonder Woman.
Gunn says the film centers on Clark and Lex. The director states that he sees Lex’s ambition and obsession, and Superman’s faith in humanity, as two distinct sides within themselves. This suggests that Man of Tomorrow will not only be a grand superhero spectacle, but also an ideological clash between two opposing characters. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
