Marathon Console Players Can Turn Off PC Matchmaking

Bungie’s first major project outside of Destiny, Marathon, is preparing for release with multi-platform support. Developed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the game particularly emphasizes cross-platform balance. According to pre-release announcements, console players will be able to disable matchmaking with PC players.

Cross-Matchmaking Option in Marathon

According to information provided by game director Joe Ziegler, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users will be able to choose to be matched only with console players. This will offer a separate option for those who don’t want to play against PC players using keyboard and mouse. A similar option is expected to be available on the PC side as well.

Bungie states that they have been working for a long time to provide the fairest possible experience between controller and keyboard-mouse. However, completely eliminating platform differences in first-person shooter games isn’t always easy. PC players are known to have an advantage, especially in terms of reflexes and aiming precision.

Marathon, an extraction shooter, will combine PvP, PvE, and PvPvE elements. Players can choose between a combat-focused or a more cautious style. While the matchmaking system won’t separate aggressive players into different pools, some adjustments will be made for those who want to focus on PvE.

A large-scale test event is also planned for Marathon. As the official release date approaches, the cross-matching option is seen as a significant reassurance, especially for console players. Bungie has made maintaining balance in cross-platform competition a priority.
