Mass Effect 5 Developers Explain Why They Remained Silent

First announced in 2020, Mass Effect 5 has been the subject of very limited information since then. Aside from occasional concept art and job postings, we haven’t seen any concrete development. This has naturally led to more frequent questions among players about “what stage is the game in?”. Recent statements shed some light on why this wait has lasted so long.

Mass Effect 5 Development Process is Progressing Silently

Michael Gamble, the head of the project, summarizes the reason for the silence quite clearly. The team is currently completely focused on the development process and therefore they are not dedicating time to sharing new content or promotions. So it seems there isn’t a problem, but rather a conscious choice.

This is actually a common scenario in large game projects. When early announcements fail to show content for a long time, it can create the perception of “slow development.” However, in reality, the first few years are usually spent developing ideas, building a team, and establishing the technical infrastructure. Mass Effect 5 seems to be following a similar path.

This silence becomes somewhat more understandable, especially considering BioWare’s recent restructuring process. The studio has focused on completing its other projects before allocating more resources to Mass Effect. This suggests that the game’s actual development process may have gained momentum later than we thought.

Currently, what we know about the game is quite limited. While there’s talk of some familiar characters returning, a direct continuation of the old trilogy isn’t expected. Mass Effect 5 will most likely take the series in a new direction. However, it seems we’ll have to be patient a little longer for this journey.
