NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs Release Delayed
The release of new NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs has been delayed due to flaws identified during the design phase. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell GPUs. According to sources, the Blackwell GPUs are being delayed by several months due to a design flaw detected during the sampling phase. According to The Information (via Bloomberg), NVIDIA has started sampling some units, although it has yet to officially announce Blackwell’s release date. However, the delay has been communicated to Microsoft and NVIDIA’s other major partners for data center GPUs.
NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs Release May Be Delayed
Reports indicate that Blackwell needs to re-evaluate the chip design, re-validate it and then move into production. The length of this process means that larger shipments of Blackwell chips are not expected until the first quarter of 2025. This delay also coincides with the release date of the next generation of GeForce graphics cards.
The delay, whose impact on NVIDIA’s gaming-focused products is uncertain, could also negatively impact the company’s shipment targets for 2024. The company had planned to ship close to half a million GPUs in 2024 and 1.5 million to 2 million in 2025. Considering that each B100 GPU sells for $30,000-35,000 and GB200 for $60,000-70,000, this delay could lead to a serious revenue loss in the Q4 2024 financial report.
