Plans for the G.I. Joe Movie have been Put on Hold

G.I. Joe, a long-standing and well-known brand in action cinema, was preparing to return to the big screen. It was known that Paramount and Hasbro were developing a script for a new film. However, according to the latest information, the project has been shelved for now. This development has raised some questions about the future of the G.I. Joe series.

New Scripts Expected for the G.I. Joe Project

Initially, Max Landis was planned to write the script for the new G.I. Joe film. The aim of the project was to bring Hasbro’s long-standing brand back to the forefront of the film world. The last film in the series, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, was released in 2021.

However, according to information shared by Variety, the screenplay Landis was working on is no longer in development. Paramount and Hasbro have not given a clear explanation as to why they halted the project. Sources close to the studio say there may be multiple reasons behind the decision.

It’s also being speculated that recent strategic changes by the companies may have played a role. Following Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s stated that priorities are being re-evaluated for some projects.

Nevertheless, the G.I. Joe brand hasn’t been completely shelved. The studio is reportedly currently evaluating new screenplays from various writers, including Danny McBride. So, while the future of the G.I. Joe series in theaters remains uncertain, the possibility of a new film hasn’t been entirely ruled out.
