Lanterns Series Offers a New Interpretation of the Green Lantern Universe
The Lanterns series aims to reinterpret DC’s famous Green Lantern stories with a darker and more mystery-focused narrative. Two key characters are at the center of the story: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. In the series, Hal Jordan appears as an experienced Lantern, while John Stewart joins the story as a new agent.
According to the promotional video, two characters work together to investigate a mysterious murder in rural America. This investigation quickly leads to a larger conspiracy and the uncovering of dark secrets. It’s rumored that the series will emphasize crime and mystery elements rather than classic superhero stories.
The cast includes Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Other cast members include Kelly Macdonald, Nathan Fillion, Garret Dillahunt, and Nicole Ari Parker. A new villain, Antaan, is also said to play a significant role in the story.
Lanterns is a collaboration between DC Studios and HBO, with Damon Lindelof and Tom King as creators. James Gunn and Peter Safran are among the producers. The series is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max in August 2026.
