PlayStation’s First Statement After the Disc Crisis is Drawing a lot of Criticism
PlayStation broke its silence on social media after its decision to end physical game production, but its return was met with a much harsher reaction than expected. The company’s post about its new arcade stick accessory, FlexStrike, turned into a protest space expressing player dissatisfaction rather than a product announcement.
PlayStation Post Becomes Focus of Player Reactions
After deciding to stop producing physical games from January 2028, PlayStation remained silent on social media for about a week. The first post after this silence focused on the new FlexStrike arcade stick accessory. However, the majority of players chose to react to the company’s decision regarding disc-based games instead of the accessory.
The post quickly garnered an unusual level of interaction. According to reports, it reached over 57,000 replies and 17 million views in less than 10 hours. For comparison, PlayStation’s previous post about the same accessory received only 352 replies and 750,000 views. This difference clearly demonstrates the magnitude of the gamer reaction.
The reactions weren’t limited to the X platform. Similar comments were also seen on Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and YouTube. While some users more calmly called for the decision to be reversed, others used a harsher tone. YouTube comments, in particular, painted a very negative picture. Although interaction decreased in the following posts, the reactions continued.
Another detail that caught attention on social media was Domino’s Pizza’s involvement. The brand garnered significant interest with its post, “Digital pizza ordered?”, reaching millions of views on its own. However, the main issue remains how PlayStation will respond to the decision to release physical games. The company’s continued silence could lead to even greater backlash.
