Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC review
After a very long wait, Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC is finally here. We will review the DLC from beginning to end, if you have not experienced the DLC yourself, we have to warn that this review can contain some spoilers about the story. Let’s start our review.
What does Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC offer to players?
Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways is a brand new DLC released for Resident Evil 4 Remake. Just like in the original game, the context is the same: retrieve the Las Plagas sample. For retrieving the Las Plagas sample, Albert Wesker hired a secret spy, who is Ada Wong.
During the content, Ada takes help for Luis, which is responsible for gathering Las Plagas sample. In the Remake version, Las Plagas sample is called “The Amber”. Gathering Amber is not easy, because everyone wants it. That’s why Luis and Ada always run into problems.
Meanwhile Ada’s client, Wesker is not patient. He wants the Amber and he wants it immediately. In the DLC, we contact with Wesker a lot. Even sometimes he comes to Pueblo, which is the village Resident Evil 4 Remake is taking place.
Things are always going down the hill, it’s like everyone is trying to prevent getting the Amber. First Ada gets infected, Luis gets killed, Krauser gets the Amber and give it to Saddler.
In this journey, Ada is not responsible for getting the Amber, she also tries to save Leon and Ashley. At the end of the DLC, Wesker requests Ada to explode the island. Ada betrayes this order to save Leon and Ashley.
Does Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways answers the questions?
During the main game, there were a lot of unanswered questions. For example, who is Ada working for? What is the purpose of getting the Amber? And most importantly, is Ada trying to help us? These questions mostly expained in the Separate Ways.
Just like in the original content, Ada is working for Wesker and Amber is important for accomplish the goals of Wesker. Wesker wants Amber because Amber is assential in order to create the Uroboros, which will change the humanity.
Wesker wants to create a new genesis, but this will be explored later in the Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways gameplay details
Separate Ways doesn’t offers a different playstyle than the original game but there are some cool stuff you can use during the gameplay. For example, Ada is using her grappling gun which allows you to access places easier and places you couldn’t reach in normal situations.
Grappling Gun is like a signature weapon for Ada Wong. So it’s not surprise that she keeps using it in Separate Ways DLC as well.
Just like in the main game, there are a lot of side quests you can complete in the DLC and some side quests are directly easter egg to the game. For example, if you find Leon’s jacket and Krauser’s hat and sell it to the Merchant, you will accomplish two side quests. This is a very nice thought detail made by Capcom.
What is positive things about Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC?
Separate Ways is bringing a lot of original stuff from the game. Many cut contents such as U-3 boss fight and laser room added thanks to that DLC. Maybe Capcom were trying to make both content rich for gameplay purposes since they did well job in the main game.
Aside from bringing back original stuff, Separate Ways answered many questions we wondered in the game. We got a chance to see more about Luis Serra and Albert Wesker.
In the original game, Wesker didn’t have a lot of cutscenes aside from talking to Ada. In the Remake version of Separate Ways, he got a lot cutscenes and interactions about his plans.
What is negative things about Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC?
Just like everything, there are bad things about Separate Ways DLC as well. Of course this is a personal statement but all Resident Evil fans would agree that Ada Wong and Jack Krauser had to at least meet at one cutscene. In the content, Ada always sees Krauser from far but do not contact, even one second. This is a big mistake made by developers.
In the original version of Separate Ways Ada and Krauser interactions were much more and we even fight against him once. Maybe developers wanted to change the role of Krauser by making this way but we would love to see at least one cutscene.
