Unbound Games, the studio where Shinji Mikami is located, was founded in 2022 and began actively developing games in 2023. The studio’s goal is quite clear: to develop both large-scale AAA projects and smaller but more ambitious games for gamers worldwide.

The AAA game currently in development is reportedly being created for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. The exact nature of the game hasn’t been revealed yet. However, Mikami’s past work on significant projects like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and most recently Hi-Fi Rush naturally raises expectations. Therefore, the world of the new game is already a subject of much speculation.

One of the key figures working at the studio is Masato Kimura, a producer on Ghostwire: Tokyo. In an interview in 2025, Kimura shared some small but significant hints about the AAA project under development. He stated that the game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, and that the team aims for high quality, but won’t be following the same production model as massive Western AAA projects.

According to Kimura, the team prefers a more focused approach instead of massive budgets. Their goal is to maintain AAA quality while delivering a powerful, immersive atmosphere and a rich gameplay experience. There’s no official announcement date yet, but it’s safe to say that Shinji Mikami’s new game has already become one of the most closely followed projects in the industry.
