Retro Roguelike Action Game Dungeon Lurker Announced

Dungeon Lurker, a new retro roguelike action game announced by Dawn of the Monsters developer 13AM Games, has attracted attention. Players will descend into the depths of a cursed dungeon, battling ruthless enemies and attempting to uncover a dark secret connected to their past. Distinguished by its vintage visual style and fast-paced action, the game is set to be released on Steam for PC in the first quarter of 2027.

Dungeon Lurker Brings Back Classic Dungeon Action

Dungeon Lurker plunges players into a cursed dungeon, aiming to offer increasingly dangerous encounters with each descent. The game will feature over 30 different levels, where players will battle classic dark fantasy creatures such as ghouls, goblins, and werewolves. The game’s real-time combat system seems poised to give the roguelike experience a faster, more reflex-driven tempo.

One of the most striking aspects of the game is its deliberately retro aesthetic. The development team presents the game with a visual identity reminiscent of old-school 3D games, featuring 256 colors. This choice gives Dungeon Lurker both a nostalgic and slightly unsettling feel. Especially when combined with dark horror elements, the game not only looks old-school but also tries to create its own atmosphere.

On the progression side, spells, potions, equipment upgrades, and talismans will play a significant role. As players return to the surface from the dungeon, they will be able to strengthen their characters, open new paths, and hunt for hidden items. It’s also stated that even the game manual will contain more secrets than expected. This detail feels like a sweet nod to the “poke through the manual” era of old-school games.

The ultimate goal of Dungeon Lurker will be to defeat the great threat called DARKLORD. For now, not many gameplay details have been shared about the game, but even the announcement is intriguing for fans of retro action and roguelikes. If 13AM Games can balance this nostalgic feel with modern fluidity, Dungeon Lurker could be one of the standout indie games of 2027.
