Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider Movie was Announced at Comic-Con

After years of rumors, Ghost Rider has finally taken his place in Marvel Studios’ future plans. The announcement at San Diego Comic-Con delighted fans eager to see the Flaming Avenger back on the big screen. This time, instead of making brief appearances alongside other heroes, the character will be at the center of his own story.

Ryan Gosling to Star in Ghost Rider Movie

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige officially announced the project at Comic-Con’s Hall H presentation, inviting Ryan Gosling and director Shawn Levy onto the stage. Gosling will be the new Ghost Rider of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is scheduled for release in 2028, but the exact release date has not yet been shared. It has also not yet been revealed which Ghost Rider identity the story will focus on.

Shawn Levy, who made his debut in the Marvel universe with Deadpool & Wolverine, will direct the film. Levy and Gosling are also working together on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. Jonathan Tropper, who also worked on that project, will write the screenplay. Marvel’s decision to introduce the character with a solo film first, rather than the anticipated Midnight Sons, suggests that Ghost Rider will be given a significant role in the new era.

Ryan Gosling has previously stated in various interviews that he wants to play Ghost Rider. The actor mentioned that he wasn’t a huge comic book fan in his childhood, but he feels an inexplicable connection to the character. Feige has also expressed his desire to see Gosling in the Marvel universe in the past. Thus, the long-discussed pairing has moved from rumor to a real project.

Ghost Rider was previously portrayed by Nicolas Cage in two different films in 2007 and 2012. Robbie Reyes’ version was also featured in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He appeared in the series, but the character hasn’t yet made a feature film appearance in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. The plot, supporting characters, and filming schedule of the new production remain a mystery. However, the casting of Ryan Gosling seems like the first strong indication that Ghost Rider will not be just a minor character in Marvel’s new post-Secret Wars era.
