Serious Sam: Shatterverse Announced
Serious Sam: Shatterverse seems to be aiming to take the classic Serious Sam formula and push it to a different level. The series, which has been one of the purest examples of the “run and gun” genre for years, is preparing to offer an experience blended with roguelite elements this time. Looking at the first details, it’s the Sam we know, but significant changes in gameplay seem to be on the horizon.
Serious Sam: Shatterverse Unveils Multiverse Chaos
The game has been announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam). There’s no definite release date yet, but the collaboration between Devolver Digital and Behaviour Interactive allows us to more or less guess the tone of the project. In other words, a bit of madness, plenty of action, and absurd ideas are on the table again.
On the story side, this time the events are connected to a multiverse. Different versions of Serious Sam from different realities are drawn into the same war, and the goal is to resist Mental, who disrupts the balance between universes. So, the idea of multiple “Sams,” not just one, is at the heart of the game.
On the gameplay side, it doesn’t stray from the classics of the series but adds new layers. Big guns, hordes of enemies, and fast-paced combat are still fundamental. However, this time roguelite systems are in play; each attempt unfolds differently, each death creates a new opportunity, and the gameplay constantly changes.
Another noteworthy detail is the increased dynamism of the gameplay. Randomly occurring events, different power-ups, and a risk-reward balance ensure that each run feels different. Serious Sam: Shatterverse seems to be a game that adds new ideas rather than completely abandoning the old formula. If it can strike this balance, it could be a very fresh step for the series.
