Take-Two is Discontinuing the GTA 5 RageMP Mod

GTA 5 has been a massive game for years, surviving not only through its official GTA Online platform but also through its community-made multiplayer mods. However, RageMP, a significant player in this field, has announced its closure schedule following a warning from Take-Two. With Rockstar previously bringing the FiveM and RedM ecosystems under its official umbrella, it seems that FiveM is now the sole authorized platform for GTA 5 multiplayer modding.

The Closure Process Begins for GTA 5 RageMP

According to a statement from RageMP, the platform will completely cease operations as of August 31, 2026. The decision to close is based on a cease-and-desist notice sent by Take-Two. This development represents a significant change, especially for communities that have been running servers and creating diverse RP experiences on RageMP for years.

The shutdown process will proceed in stages. The first phase begins immediately, halting the creation of new community servers and beginning the termination of access to RageMP server tools. Server owners are being advised to migrate their projects to FiveM. The RageMP team will provide support to server administrators during this transition.

The second phase will begin on June 1, 2026, closing the public server list. Server administrators will need to perform necessary checks before this date. The final phase will conclude on August 31, 2026, with the RageMP client, server tools, and backend infrastructure completely ceasing support. Community servers are also expected to cease operations on the same day.

This decision could significantly impact the GTA 5 RP world. While FiveM’s official position strengthens, the closure of RageMP may reduce the diversity in modding. On the other hand, it could also be seen as Rockstar and Take-Two attempting to bring user-generated content and the RP ecosystem under more control as they approach the GTA 6 era. In short, the established order is changing for the GTA 5 modding community.
