Terminal War, an Indie Game Similar to The Last of Us Factions, is Coming

Terminal War seems poised to fill a void that players have long felt the absence of. Following Naughty Dog’s cancellation of the Factions project, interest in more tactical and intense multiplayer experiences of this kind remained strong. Now, an indie team is trying to bring this idea to life on their own, and even the first images show that this intention is quite serious.

Terminal War Brings Back Factions-Style Gameplay

The game will be released on PC via Steam as Early Access. Initially, an early access period of approximately 12-18 months is planned, during which the game will continue to evolve with player feedback. Therefore, the resulting structure will be a project that will take shape over time, rather than a finished experience from start to finish.

In terms of gameplay, Terminal War offers a 4v4 team-based third-person shooter experience. However, strategy and resource management take precedence over speed. Limited ammo, melee mechanics, and brutal execution animations are key elements that define the game’s tone. This directly evokes the multiplayer spirit of The Last of Us.

The short gameplay footage shared highlights the intensity of the combat. Every move is crucial, and mistakes are quickly punished. This sets the game apart from more arcade-style titles, making it a more “tense” experience.

With the early access version, players will be able to experience the basic gameplay with maps, weapons, and customization options. However, the development team clearly states that this is just the beginning. If Terminal War can grow with the right support, it could be one of the rare projects that can fill the void left by the canceled Factions project.
