The Platinum Era Begins in the Xbox Achievement System
The Xbox achievement system has allowed players to accumulate Gamerscore for years, but it still lacks a direct equivalent to the Platinum Trophy on PlayStation. While users who unlock all achievements in a game increase their scores, they don’t receive a separate reward that specifically shows 100% completion. A recent statement from Xbox management suggests this deficiency may soon be addressed.
XBOX Achievement System to Get Platinum-Like Rewards
XBOX announced new features for Insider users, such as adding voice chat to game recordings and making achievement tracking easier. Following this announcement, a player asked when a real-world equivalent of the PlayStation Platinum Trophy system would be released. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated that the team is working on something for later this year.
Sharma’s response was quite brief, making it unclear exactly how the system being developed will work. However, the fact that the explanation was given directly in response to the Platinum Trophy question strongly suggests that a 100% completion reward is on the table. Xbox has previously revamped its achievement screens and made various improvements to the interface, but such a feature would be a much bigger step.
Microsoft could be preparing a new type of achievement that is automatically awarded when all achievements in a game are unlocked. Another possibility is creating special badges or a separate showcase section that displays completed games on the profile. This would allow players to more easily show their friends not only their total Gamerscore but also which games they have completed perfectly.
Whether the feature will work retroactively is also currently unclear. Whether users who have completed numerous games to 100% over the years will automatically receive rewards for their past achievements is likely the most intriguing question. Details remain unclear until an official announcement. However, if the planned innovation is indeed a Platinum-like system, the Xbox achievement system is preparing for one of its most significant updates to date.
