The Star Wars Universe Gets a Gotham-Style City
When you think of Star Wars, you usually think of intergalactic wars, Jedi, and grand epics. But this time, the picture is a little different. The new production highlights the darker and dirtier side of the universe, drawing the viewer into a much more “local” but equally dangerous story.
Janix is Like Gotham in the Star Wars Universe
The planet Janix, introduced alongside Maul: Shadow Lord, becomes Darth Maul’s new headquarters. This city, unlike the classic Star Wars atmosphere, has a structure full of crime, chaos, and dark relationships. In fact, the production team directly compares Janix to Gotham City.
The city’s most striking feature is its completely uncontrolled criminal ecosystem. Being off the Empire’s radar makes it an ideal hiding place for characters like Maul. However, this also makes the city even more dangerous, as the balance of power can shift at any moment.
The series features not only criminals but also characters who try to maintain order. Captain Lawson, in particular, plays a role similar to Commissioner Gordon in Gotham. Characters like him, trying to maintain order in a city where the system is on the verge of collapse, add extra depth to the story.
Janix’s atmosphere is just as striking as its story. Dark streets illuminated by neon lights, a noir-style narrative, and a constant sense of threat make the city a living character. This creates an atmosphere unusually intense and dark in the Star Wars universe.
At the heart of all this is Maul’s rise. Trying to rebuild his criminal empire, he completely disrupts Janix’s already fragile order. This elevates the city from a mere backdrop to one of the most important parts of the story.
