Ubisoft Is Working on Its New Game Scout

Although the Battle Royale genre boomed years ago, it is a fact that player interest has decreased over time. However, some producers still think there is an opportunity in this area. The new Ubisoft project developed under the name Scout is a concrete example of this idea. The game, which is said to be inspired by Apex Legends, stands out as a bold step by Ubisoft, which believes that the genre can be revived. However, the company’s past experiences and market conditions make the fate of this new game uncertain.

Scout Aims to Be an Alternative to Apex Legends

According to the allegations, Scout will be a hero-based Battle Royale directly inspired by Apex Legends. In fact, it is said that Apex was even included in the visuals used to promote the game at the beginning of the development process. It is stated that different interpretations of characters such as Pathfinder, Wraith and Lifeline will also be found in Scout.

Ubisoft’s aim with this project is to fill the same gap by taking advantage of Apex Legends’ falling player count. According to a source, Ubisoft’s top management believes there is still room for the Battle Royale genre. However, this belief contradicts the company’s own research team’s data. Because Ubisoft’s internal research argues that the focus should be on what players are looking for in the post-Battle Royale era.

Ubisoft has tried its hand at this genre before. Hyperscape, which was released in 2020, fell short of expectations and was terminated in just 18 months. Since then, the company is known to have canceled about a dozen Battle Royale projects. It is not yet clear whether Scout will be included in this list.

On the other hand, uncertainties continue on the Ubisoft front. After the announcement of the new subsidiary company established in partnership with Tencent, players and investors are worried about the future of the company. The fact that its stock values ​​have fallen to their lowest level in 12 years also supports these concerns. It is a matter of curiosity how Scout will position itself in this difficult period.
