Ubisoft plans to turn its major franchises into billion-dollar brands

Ubisoft, in a new press release, shared striking details about both its financial statements and the company’s future roadmap. Following the previously announced organizational split, Vantage Studios, positioned at the heart of the newly formed “creative house” structure, is planned to take the company’s strongest brands to a much larger scale.

Ubisoft’s New Goal: Billion-Dollar Brands Annually

Ubisoft currently has five different creative houses, and Vantage Studios, positioned as the most important, is responsible for the company’s flagship series. This structure manages Ubisoft’s best-known brands such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. The studio’s stated mission is to transform these series into “billion-dollar brands annually.”

Ubisoft plans to turn its major franchises into billion-dollar brands

This goal, outlined in the press release, clearly demonstrates Ubisoft’s ambition to scale up. The company aims not only to release new games but also to transform these brands into massive, revenue-generating ecosystems spanning diverse platforms and service models. This approach suggests that live service-focused titles and long-term content plans will take center stage.

However, a significant ambiguity is evident in the statements. It’s unclear whether Ubisoft’s “billion-dollar brand” refers to franchises generating one billion dollars in revenue annually or to brands with a combined value reaching one billion dollars and regularly releasing new games. This distinction directly impacts the realism of the goal.

For example, while Rainbow Six Siege is known to generate significant revenue over the years, the fact that franchises like Far Cry, which haven’t released a new game in a long time, haven’t reached this level raises questions. Despite this, Ubisoft appears determined to allocate more resources to its strongest brands through this restructuring process, making these franchises the backbone of the company’s financial future.
