Universal and Illumination are Working on a Nintendo Movie

Nintendo Movie May Be Planned for 2028

According to a leaked distribution schedule, Universal Pictures and Illumination are planning an untitled Nintendo film for April 2028. The project, listed as “Untitled Illumination/Nintendo Event Film,” has not yet been officially announced. The fact that it’s marked in red suggests that the date or schedule may change.

The biggest question at this point is which universe this film will belong to. Fans are speculating about different possibilities. While a Donkey Kong-focused film is frequently discussed, the inclusion of more niche series like Pikmin is also noteworthy. On the other hand, considering the success of the Mario universe, a third film or a spin-off seems quite likely.

Looking at Nintendo’s recent film performance, such an expansion isn’t surprising. The first film broke records among game adaptations, and the sequel had a rapid opening at the box office. This success seems to have paved the way for the company to invest more in the film side.
