Valve Steam Frame Seems Much Closer to Release Now

Valve has not yet shared an official price or release date for its new VR headset. However, recent changes to the Steam store reveal that preparations for the Valve Steam Frame are accelerating behind the scenes. The company’s addition of a device-specific compatibility category suggests that the hardware may be much closer to reaching gamers.

Valve Steam Frame Store Preparations Begin

The new section added to the Steam store, called “Great on Steam Frame,” brings together compatible games and applications. The system will work similarly to the compatibility categories used for Steam Deck and Steam Machine. This will allow players to more easily see which titles can run smoothly on the new VR headset through the store.

Currently, only four titles are included under the new category: Portal 2, Into Black, Aperture Hand Lab, and The Lab. The limited list suggests compatibility work is still in its early stages. However, the opening of a dedicated store section indicates that Valve is actively preparing the necessary digital infrastructure for the device.

Valve has previously taken steps towards the Valve Steam Frame ecosystem. It’s reported that the company has begun assigning compatibility ratings to games and has marked the Steam Frame Wireless Adapter as “released.” These developments are significant indicators suggesting that the hardware is not just a prototype and that final pre-sale preparations are underway.

Having previously released hardware like the Steam Machine and Steam Controller, Valve may be aiming to strengthen its position in the VR market with the Steam Frame. However, the company remains silent on pricing, technical specifications, and a definitive release schedule. While recent changes to the store infrastructure don’t constitute a direct announcement, they suggest that the Valve Steam Frame launch is now much closer.
