Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn Announced
Nacon and crea-ture Studios have announced Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. Based on the World of Darkness universe, the game will offer an action-adventure experience shaped by Metroidvania-style gameplay. Players will accompany Taylor on his fight for revenge, identity, and survival after his true nature is revealed following the murder of his friend.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn Focuses on Three Forms
The core gameplay of Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn revolves around switching between Garou’s three different forms. His human form, Homid, excels in ranged weapons, firearms, and crossbows. His wolf form, Lupus, offers a more agile option for scouting, stealth, and silent takedowns. Crinos, on the other hand, is a combat form fueled by Rage power, capable of creating massive destruction in close combat.
Players will dynamically switch between these forms, overcoming different obstacles in both combat and exploration. Louis Lamarche, creative director at crea-ture Studios, says the game is inspired by classic action-adventure structures, but the shapeshifting system adds a natural depth to the Metroidvania style. This means the character’s tools won’t just be weapons, but different forms of their own body.
The combat system will also revolve around this structure. Players will encounter Lethe Lab mercenaries, Pentex machines, and supernatural beings. Some enemies won’t be easily defeated with a single form. For example, attacking a hovering drone with the Crinos form will be ineffective, while switching to human form and using ranged weapons will be a more effective solution. Boss battles will also require using multiple forms at the right time.
In Rageborn, players will explore vast and interconnected regions of Alaska. As they gain new powers, they can return to previously inaccessible areas, forge new paths, and collect mystical roots that strengthen their connection to Gaia, creating different ability combinations. They can also develop werewolf sanctuaries; rescued allies will contribute to equipment and power upgrades. This structure suggests the game will rely heavily not only on combat, but also on exploration and progression.
