Amazon Luna Will No Longer Sell Games
Amazon Luna, already experimenting with a different model as one of the services trying to carve out a place for itself in cloud gaming, has made the direction of the system clearer with the latest changes. Users will no longer be able to purchase individual games through Luna, and access to third-party subscriptions is also being removed. In other words, the platform is moving away from the classic store model and transitioning to a completely subscription-based structure.
Amazon Luna Switches to a Subscription Model
With this change on Amazon Luna, some features that users are accustomed to have been completely removed. It will no longer be possible to purchase standalone games or directly use third-party services like Ubisoft+ through Luna. Similarly, the “bring your own library” system is also being disabled.
At first glance, this decision seems a bit harsh because it severely restricts the flexible usage aspect of the platform. Previously, users could both play games through subscriptions and purchase and add games to their libraries. Now, Luna is becoming a closed ecosystem focused entirely on its own content.
Amazon, however, interprets this change differently. Instead of shutting down Luna, the company says it will invest more in the “experience” side. They plan to prioritize socially focused features like GameNight. In short, Luna’s goal seems to be to transform from a purely gaming platform into a more social gaming space.
Nevertheless, how user habits will change remains a big question mark. For many gamers, the platform’s appeal lay in its integration with various app stores. Now that these features are removed, it’s even more intriguing how Luna will position itself in the competition.
