GTA 6 Leak Metadata Reveals Unexpected Detail

Yesterday we discussed the leaked gameplay and map of GTA 6, followed by Cyberleek’s claims of sharing them. Today, a new piece of the story has been added. A source examining the file information of the leaked basketball video noticed that the footage was encoded using FFmpeg 6.1. This gives some clues about when the leak was prepared, but it’s not as simple as we thought.

The Date of the GTA 6 Leak Cannot Be Confirmed by Metadata

According to the shared technical information, the video was encoded with Lavc60.31.102 and Lavf60.16.100 components, which are used by FFmpeg 6.1. This version was released in November 2023. Therefore, the file may have been brought to its current state at the earliest after this date.

The crucial point here is that this information doesn’t actually prove the video was recorded in November 2023. The file may have been converted or re-compressed later. Moreover, it’s possible that some metadata, such as the original recording date, was deleted during this process. So, we don’t have a definitive recording date.

NateTheHate also says the images could be over a year old and doesn’t seem to be from the recent GTA 6 previews. On the other hand, Spider-Vice on the GTA Forum points out that the fact that the FFmpeg version used is old doesn’t necessarily mean the video is from the same date. That’s technically the most logical approach.

Therefore, it might not be entirely accurate to consider the GTA 6 images we saw yesterday as the game’s current state. If the leaks are indeed based on a development version from around 2023 or 2024, Rockstar may have changed many things in the meantime, from gameplay to animations. The Extended Look presentation on August 27th will still be the most reliable source for seeing the actual current state of GTA 6.
