Arc Raiders players have started trading blueprints
At the heart of the extraction shooter genre lies risk-taking and loot collection, and Arc Raiders is built on this formula. Players emerge from Speranza, hunt for rare loot and blueprints, and then use them to make their next raid more efficient. However, a habit that completely bypasses this cycle has emerged recently.
Blueprints in Arc Raiders are Being Sold for Real Money
Some players have started selling weapon blueprints and rare materials in Arc Raiders for real money on off-game platforms. This type of trading isn’t new to the gaming world; similar “unauthorized markets” have appeared in many popular titles before. However, this situation seriously contradicts the spirit of Arc Raiders.
The primary function of Blueprints in the game is to craft better equipment and collect more loot. The entire sense of progression in the game hinges on acquiring these rare items by taking risks. When Blueprints are purchased, this cycle becomes meaningless. The player largely loses motivation to collect loot, leaving them with only the option of engaging in combat with Arc Raiders or other players.
Of course, PvE and PvP combat plays a significant role in Arc Raiders. However, for many players, the main purpose of these conflicts is to seize the loot carried by the opposing side. When Blueprints and rare items are purchased with real money, this motivation disappears. At this point, Arc Raiders risks becoming a pure shooter experience with plenty of alternatives already available.
Another concern within the community is the possibility of adding an official trading or market system to the game in the future. Embark Studios CEO Patrick Söderlund has previously stated that such an idea could be considered. However, players fear this would lead Arc Raiders down a path similar to Escape from Tarkov. In such a scenario, the value of loot could become detached from its in-game meaning and measured solely by its market price.
For now, this blueprint trading is entirely out of the game and uncontrolled. However, as Arc Raiders’ popularity grows, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more such initiatives. How the development team will approach this situation and how they will preserve the game’s core philosophy seems likely to be one of the most talked-about topics within the Arc Raiders community in the coming period.
