Battlefield 6 Developer Makes Map Confession
While Battlefield 6 achieved great success upon its release, it wasn’t without criticism. One of the most frequent complaints from players was that the maps were too small and cramped. This feedback, which had been ongoing since the beta phase, finally reached the development team. Producer David Sirland acknowledged the players’ right and announced that work was ongoing on “larger and more open maps.”
Battlefield 6 Map Criticisms Responded Quickly
The expansive battlefields, a hallmark of the series, were smaller than expected in Battlefield 6. Players, in particular, complained that the Blackwell map was “too cramped” and that vehicles could scan the entire area even from safe zones. One player comparing map scales even revealed that Battlefield 6 had the smallest average map size in the series.
David Sirland, addressing these criticisms, acknowledged the issue, saying, “This issue does exist on some maps, particularly the limited flight area. But it doesn’t apply to all maps.” Nevertheless, Sirland offered hope to players, saying, “We need more of that massive sandbox map experience, which is unique to the series.”
Sirland’s statements suggest that larger maps may be coming with Battlefield 6’s second season. However, no changes are expected in the short term. The game is currently in its first season with a new map called Eastwood, which will continue until the early months of 2026.
Although Battlefield 6 has received praise for its gameplay, it currently focuses more on close-quarters combat. Players are longing for a return to the series’ classic “big battle atmosphere.” The developers’ statements are promising in this regard: “Battlefield will return to its massive maps.”
