Black Ops 7 Cards Allegedly Use AI

Black Ops 7 is at the center of a new controversy following its release. This time, the issue isn’t the game’s story mode or online requirements, but rather the visual content. Players claim that some of the “calling cards,” or profile cards, in Black Ops 7 feature AI-generated images. Examples shared on social media suggest that some of the illustrations on the cards are specifically designed in a Studio Ghibli style.

Are There Traces of AI on Black Ops 7 Cards?

The post that sparked the allegations was made by X (Twitter) user Kume. It was stated that the art style used in the mission cards “Over Here Buddy,” “Peekaboo,” and “Reeled In” is one that could have been created with common AI tools. Players believe the artwork on these cards was designed not by human hands, but with the help of AI. The stylistic errors, particularly in the brush strokes and character faces, reinforce this claim.

Interestingly, Activision hasn’t been entirely silent on the matter. A brief note on the game’s Steam page reads: “Our team uses generative AI tools to develop some in-game assets.” However, it doesn’t specify which content uses AI, and to what extent. This fuels players’ suspicions.

A short time later, Activision released a statement. The company stated, “Our creative process is still managed by talented teams within our studios. We use AI tools solely to support the production process.” However, this statement further fueled the debate, as many players believe that using AI instead of artistically produced content is “soulless.”

Black Ops 7 has become a source of controversy not only for its technical achievements but also for its artistic direction. While players question the extent to which AI tools should be present in the gaming world in the future, Activision insists on describing them as “auxiliary.” Black Ops 7 will continue to be discussed not only for its story but also for its behind-the-scenes production process.
