Blade Won’t Be Like Other Marvel Games

We’re in an era where superhero games aren’t as guaranteed to be successful as they once were. Many major projects are being shelved before even reaching players, but new announcements about Blade have somewhat reassured Marvel fans. Announced at The Game Awards in 2023, the game had been the subject of much silence, raising concerns that Blade might also be among the cancelled projects.

Blade Game Continues Development at Arkane Lyon

A clear answer to these concerns came from Arkane Lyon. Dinga Bakaba, the studio’s co-creative director, confirmed on social media that the development process for Blade is actively continuing. Bakaba stated that the team is passionately committed to the project and extremely proud of the work, asking for patience. This short but clear message officially confirmed that the game has not been cancelled.

This statement gains even more significance, especially considering the developments of recent months. EA’s quiet cancellation of the Black Panther project, Warner Bros.’s shelving of the Wonder Woman game, and the closure of Monolith all demonstrated how fragile the superhero gaming scene is. On the Marvel side, Motive’s Iron Man game remains uncertain, and the question of whether many other projects are still in development continues to be asked.

Arkane’s vision for Blade is somewhat different. The studio’s unique design approach, established with games like Dishonored and Deathloop, suggests that Blade could also stand apart from classic Marvel games. Bakaba’s emphasis on it being a “special game” further fuels this expectation.

In the coming years, projects like Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Wolverine, and Tokon are planned. If everything goes according to plan, Blade could be one of the rare Marvel games that follows this wave but forges its own path. For now, the only thing certain is that Blade is still alive and that Arkane Lyon wants to present him as a different Marvel experience, without rushing it.
