Breaking Control Resonant Didn’t Change Players’ Minds
Control Resonant became available as a pirated copy on PC just one day before its official release. It’s reported that opening the preload files allowed for faster bypass of security layers, resulting in the crack spreading earlier than expected. Despite this, the debate surrounding the game is far from the classic “early crack” narrative. On Reddit and piracy-focused forums, numerous users argue that instead of getting the game for free, players should directly support Remedy.
Control Resonant Players Want to Support Remedy
One prominent opinion within the community is Remedy’s recent financial performance and its struggle to achieve expected sales levels at launch. Therefore, some players believe Control Resonant could be a significant turning point for the studio and are calling for purchasing it instead of resorting to pirated versions. The studio’s tendency to develop creatively risky projects is cited as a key reason for supporting Remedy.
The pirated version also raises technical questions. It’s noted that pre-release builds may lack day-to-day patches and new graphics card drivers, potentially leading to performance issues. Furthermore, the early release of crack files from unreliable sources carries the risk of malware.
However, the rapid cracking of the game is noteworthy. Some previous Remedy titles, especially those exclusive to the Epic Games Store, were more resistant to piracy on the first day. This time, preload access may have given pirate groups an earlier opportunity to exploit the situation. The similarity of the protection system to older Remedy games may also have facilitated the process.
Currently, it’s unclear whether the crack affects online features or only bypasses the single-player mode. But the real interesting point lies here: the cracking of Control Resonant doesn’t seem to have created a huge demand for pirated versions. At least, initial reactions suggest that a significant portion of players prioritize Remedy’s revenue from this project.
