Star Wars Zero Company Earned $50 Million, but…
Star Wars Zero Company has surpassed one million sales, according to estimates shared by Alinea Analytics. If this figure is accurate, the game may have generated approximately $50 million in revenue in less than a month after its release. This performance, which seems quite strong for the first Bit Reactor game, also shows that there is serious interest in XCOM-like tactical games in the Star Wars universe. However, the picture is not equally positive for the studio’s employees.
Star Wars Zero Company Successful, But the Team’s Future Uncertain
According to Alinea Analytics’ estimates, 69.9% of sales were on PC, 19.9% on PlayStation 5, and 10.2% on Xbox Series X/S. The dominance on the PC side is particularly significant. While the tactical gameplay structure finding a stronger response among PC players partly explains this difference, the percentage is still noteworthy.
The game’s Steam performance also supports this. Star Wars Zero Company surpassed previous Star Wars games’ Steam peaks, reaching 77,889 concurrent players at launch. The rapid formation of a strong modding community, despite the lack of official mod support, demonstrates the high level of interest on the PC side.
The problem, however, begins with Bit Reactor. Shortly before the game’s release, it was reported that approximately 80% of the studio’s employees were placed on unpaid leave. No statement has been made regarding the return of these employees since then. Therefore, despite the game’s estimated $50 million in revenue, the future of a large portion of the team remains uncertain.
While players are already demanding new updates and DLC content, the current staffing situation raises questions about how these plans will be implemented. Neither EA, Disney, nor Bit Reactor has yet announced a new content plan. If the sales figures are accurate, Star Wars Zero Company has had a strong commercial start, but how this success will translate to the development team is currently unknown.
