Dark Souls: Archthrones Became a Hope for Gamers
The Dark Souls series has resurfaced after Elden Ring. The lack of plans for a new Dark Souls game or additional content from FromSoftware had kept fans waiting for a long time. However, a massive community-developed mod project called Dark Souls: Archthrones has managed to bring the series back into the spotlight.
Dark Souls: Archthrones Offers a New Story
Dark Souls: Archthrones is not just a small mod; it’s a comprehensive project designed almost like a new game in its own right. Developed by a team of nine, the mod sets its story before the events of Dark Souls III. This time, players take on the role of The Emissary of Embers, whose task is to hunt down the gods of the past and collect their souls.
The amount of content offered by the mod is quite remarkable. The project includes entirely new enemies, armor, weapons, and spells. In addition, original NPC quests, voiced characters, and new side stories in keeping with the series’ atmosphere have been added to the game. The development team states that they were particularly inspired by FromSoftware classics like Demon’s Souls in the level design.
Archthrones is also quite ambitious in terms of exploration and gameplay. Five different worlds for players to explore, a total of 17 new boss battles, and different game mechanics make the project quite comprehensive. Furthermore, a non-linear structure allowing for more free progression, similar to Elden Ring, is among the mod’s notable features.
Although not an official FromSoftware project, Dark Souls: Archthrones is seen as a new chapter for fans of the series. Moreover, the mod is completely free to download. While an official announcement for Dark Souls 4 is awaited, Archthrones currently stands out as one of the strongest options for players to return to this dark and brutal world.
