Fable Fans Were Thrilled by the Jack of Blades Surprise
Fable fans received some long-awaited news with the new trailer released during the Xbox Games Showcase. The new Fable, developed by Playground Games, revealed some key characters from the story along with its release date. Jack of Blades, who briefly appeared at the end of the trailer, was a big surprise, especially for veteran players. One of the series’ most iconic villains, he hadn’t been on the main scene since the first game.
Fable Reminds Us of the Old Days with Jack of Blades
The new trailer clarified Fable’s release date as February 23, 2027. The game was previously expected to be released this year, but due to the busy schedule and especially the impact of GTA 6, the date was pushed back to 2027. This allowed Fable to avoid the large crowd of games at the end of the year and settle into a more relaxed release window.
The trailer first introduced Isabel, one of the new antagonists. Dubbed the Hero of Wraithmarsh, Isabel appears to be a dangerous figure intent on eliminating other heroes. In the Fable universe, the “Hero” title doesn’t always signify a good character, so Isabel’s role seems fitting with the series’ classic humor and dark side. The actress playing the character hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Hayley Atwell is being speculated as a possibility.
The real surprise came at the end of the trailer. Jack of Blades made a very brief appearance, hinting at his return. It’s not yet known what role he will play in the story, but his presence suggests Fable will connect to older games. The inclusion of Wraithmarsh in the same trailer also raises interesting questions about the timeline, as Wraithmarsh was a significant area in Fable 2 and was connected to Oakvale in the first game.
The new Fable will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. This marks the first time a Fable game will be available on PlayStation. The return of Jack of Blades makes the new game not just a modern reboot, but an ambitious sequel with strong references to old fans.
