Garry Newman Responds to Rust 2 Allegations
Rust 2 rumors suddenly flared up on Reddit with a suspicious Steam page being shared. Initially, players thought it was a typical troll post, but details changed the situation. The fact that the account was newly created, followed by witty responses from Facepunch, led many to believe it might be a deliberate “leak.” In short, things quickly got chaotic.
A Clear Response to Rust 2 Rumors
The expected statement from Facepunch Studios, the developer of Rust, was not long in coming. The studio’s founder, Garry Newman, responded very clearly to the claims: “No. We are not making Rust 2.” This statement also highlighted how quickly the rumors grew, as expectations skyrocketed even before any confirmed data was available.
On the other hand, the fact that the shared Steam page was quickly flagged as suspicious weakened the basis of these claims. Warnings on SteamDB indicated that the page might be impersonating another product. In short, there’s neither an official announcement nor a reliable leak; it’s more of a rumor circulating within the community.
Interestingly, some comments from Facepunch unintentionally fueled this confusion. In particular, the humorous and ambiguous responses from studio executives led some players to interpret it as a deliberate marketing ploy. However, subsequent explanations clarified that it was entirely a joke.
Despite all these developments, the possibility of a Rust 2 hasn’t been completely ruled out. Some previous statements indicated that the door wasn’t entirely closed on the idea of a sequel. However, for now, the studio’s focus is on different projects, and Rust 2 seems far from being a concrete project in the near future.
