Has Highguard Reached the End of the Road?

Things aren’t looking good for Highguard. The free-to-play raid shooter, which launched in January, initially showed promise but quickly experienced a significant loss of players. Now, the official website is inaccessible, raising questions within the community about whether the game is shutting down. There has been no clear statement from developer Wildlight Entertainment yet.

Highguard Website Shut Down, Silence Continues

Panic began when PlayHighguard.com went offline. Instead of the game’s detailed website, only the message “This site is currently unavailable” and a support email address are visible. The lack of any information on social media has fueled rumors. In live-service games, a website going offline is generally seen as a bad sign.

Has Highguard Reached the End of the Road?

The situation has actually been alarming for some time. Highguard had a strong start on Steam during its launch period, reaching approximately 97,000 concurrent players. However, this number dropped by almost 99% within weeks. By early February, the peak player count had fallen to around 1,600. A decline of this magnitude doesn’t seem sustainable, especially for a game based on a microtransaction model.

Wildlight tried to revive the game with 5v5 mode and balance updates. But these moves didn’t have the expected effect. Moreover, the studio recently confirmed mass layoffs, stating that only a small “core team” remains. This development has increased the question marks surrounding the project’s future.

Currently, there is no official closure announcement. However, players’ main concern is what will happen to their spending. If Highguard has truly reached the end of the road, refunds may be considered. For now, all eyes are on an announcement from Wildlight.
