Journey to the Cyberpunk World in Witcher 3
As part of the ambitious “What Lies Unseen” project for The Witcher 3, modders made an interesting discovery during the early development stages of the game. In the first version of the “Through Time and Space” quest, Geralt and Avallac’h were teleported to Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City.
Geralt and Avallac’h in Night City
According to the dialogue in the quest, Geralt asks “What is this? The realm of the dead?” when he sees the city. Avallac’h replies “No. It’s just another reality where the Spiral takes place… It’s technologically advanced, but broken. It’s dying.” Geralt adds, “It’s disgusting. The smell, the noise… How can you live here?”
CD Projekt Red developers have previously stated that they wanted to add such a scene to the game. In fact, an easter egg was planned where Geralt gives money to a beggar in Novigrad and the same character appears as a rich and successful person in Cyberpunk 2077.
Ultimately, although this scene was not added to the game, methods were used that hinted at the connection between the two universes in more subtle detail. Geralt appearing in Night City and saying “It smells awful in here!” could have damaged these subtle connections.
Nevertheless, this discovery shows that Geralt and Ciri could have guest roles in other games thanks to the Witcher universe’s interdimensional travel rules. In short, teleporting to different universes seems to be a very common situation for the Witcher.
