Resident Evil Requiem Owes its Success to its Predecessors
Resident Evil Requiem, which achieved great sales success immediately after its release, made a significant impact on the horror game world. Capcom’s new title became one of the fastest-growing games in the series, selling 5 million copies in just one week. However, new data reveals that an unexpected player base is behind this success.
Most Resident Evil Requiem Players Are Over 35
According to data shared by Mat Piscatella, who analyzes game sales, more than 60% of players planning to buy Resident Evil Requiem are 35 years and older. This shows that long-time fans of the series are showing intense interest in the new game.
Since the Resident Evil series first launched in 1996, many players interested in the game today experienced it in their youth. Therefore, a strong nostalgic connection is believed to exist, especially among console players. The successful games released in recent years have also contributed to this audience’s return.
According to data, the platform with the highest sales was PlayStation 5. This shows that Resident Evil Requiem has found a strong resonance, particularly among console players. The shift of younger players towards different genres like Roblox and Fortnite also leads to classic single-player horror games appealing more to an adult audience.
On the other hand, Capcom has hinted at working on new projects in honor of the series’ 30th anniversary. Currently, the company has only officially confirmed Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. However, the development team states that new game announcements will be made by fiscal year 2027. These announcements may include new Resident Evil projects that have been the subject of much discussion.
