SAROS Developer Gets Started on New Game
Housemarque, which made a strong comeback with Returnal and is now working on SAROS, a PlayStation 5 exclusive, is also investing in the future. New job postings published on the studio’s official website indicate that preparations for the next project have begun. Although SAROS hasn’t been released yet, the team already seems to be planning for “the next big game.”
Housemarque is Building a Team for its New Project
Currently, the studio has six different open positions. The most notable of these is the Principal Graphics Programmer position. This person is expected to work closely with the technical art director, technical director, and graphic architect to contribute to advancing visual technology in the studio’s next game. The goal is to develop innovative solutions, especially in ray tracing, lighting, and shading.
Another notable detail in the job posting is the emphasis on real-time machine learning and tensor computing techniques. Candidates are also required to have at least eight years of experience in graphics programming and have worked on at least one AAA game. A willingness to push the boundaries of visual quality on PlayStation hardware is specifically mentioned. This statement suggests that Housemarque, under the Sony umbrella, is preparing to raise the technical bar.
Another key position the studio is seeking is Lead Gameplay Animator. The job posting explicitly states that the team is working on “the next groundbreaking game.” Candidates are expected to have experience with in-game animation in AAA projects and preferably a leadership background. They are looking for someone who can both generate creative ideas and lead the team.
All positions are based in Helsinki. These postings, coming before SAROS is even released, show that Housemarque is planning long-term and doesn’t want to be limited to a single project. It seems the studio has already begun designing the next step for the next generation.
