Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Announced
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, announced as a collaboration between Bloober Team and Paramount Games Studio, has garnered attention as a new story-driven action-adventure game. Known for atmospheric titles like Silent Hill 2 and Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team will this time approach the Star Trek universe with a more mature, darker, and psychologically tense feel. A familiar face will also appear in the game: Lieutenant Ro Laren will be voiced by her original actress, Michelle Forbes.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Will Offer a Dark Adventure
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier will be a third-person, story-driven action-adventure game with a mature tone. In the story, Ro Laren crash-lands on a distant planet under the influence of a strange consciousness. This planet, both impressive and deadly, will keep players constantly on edge. While Ro’s mission begins with exploration and a sense of responsibility in keeping with the classic Star Trek spirit, this time each new piece of information will draw the character into a darker labyrinth.
At the heart of the game is a mysterious entity that has taken over the planet. This entity will not only alter the environment but also attack Ro’s mind. Players will encounter creatures, evade environmental hazards, and in some cases, will have to choose to outmaneuver enemies rather than fight. This structure combines Bloober Team’s experience in psychological thrillers with Star Trek’s exploration theme in a unique way.
Gameplay will feature exploration, puzzle solving, combat, and cinematic scenes. Ro will be able to scan and analyze objects in the environment with the Tricorder, and use the Phaser to both solve puzzles and defend herself against enemies. The fact that these technologies are not just nostalgic accessories but directly integrated into the gameplay seems to strengthen the game’s Star Trek identity.
Paramount Games Studio states that they particularly trust Bloober Team’s atmosphere-building skills for the project. Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno says they are excited to reinterpret Star Trek with a psychological thriller layer. Star Trek: Shadow Frontier will retain the series’ themes of curiosity, courage, and journeys into the unknown, while placing Ro Laren in a darker test where her perception of reality is challenged.
