State of Play September 2026: All Announcements
State of Play September 2026 was released on September 3rd, giving us a closer look at Sony’s plans for the remainder of 2026 and beyond. The approximately 60-minute presentation included gameplay footage, new trailers, release date announcements, and updates from various studios. One of the last major showcases of the year for PlayStation, the event kicked off with noteworthy announcements, especially for players expecting horror, action, and big-budget story-driven games.
State of Play September 2026 Announcements
Resident Evil Movie
One of the highlights of the State of Play presentation was the new Resident Evil film. Directed by Zach Cregger, known for Weapons and Barbarian, the film revisits the Raccoon City outbreak from the Resident Evil 2 era. The story appears to depict the fall of Raccoon City in a darker and more tense atmosphere.
New footage shown featured Bryan, a medical delivery man played by Austin Abrams. Bryan is introduced as an unfortunate character trying to make deliveries on Raccoon City’s worst night. The trailer included scenes of infected bodies jumping from rooftops, snow turning blood red, and the city quickly spiraling out of control. Resident Evil will be released in theaters exclusively in IMAX format on September 18, 2026.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Insomniac Games’ long-awaited game, Marvel’s Wolverine, received a new and comprehensive preview during State of Play September 2026. This final major trailer, centered around Logan, showed that the game will stand out not only for its brutal melee scenes but also for its key characters from the mutant universe.
The new footage shows Logan sharing scenes with characters like Jean Grey and Mystique. The short dialogues between the characters convey classic Wolverine toughness and the tense relationship between the mutants well. The encounter, set in a temple-like area, also suggests the story will expand to different locations. Marvel’s Wolverine will be released on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PS5.
Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted
Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara continues Atsu’s story with a new expansion. Having completed his journey of revenge in the main game, the character is now at the center of a narrative that alternates between present-day Ezo and his memories of the Sekigahara War. The character Nagato also appears to be a key figure in bringing Atsu’s past back into the story.
The biggest surprise in the trailer was Jin Sakai’s return. This detail seems like a strong move directly linking Ghost of Yōtei to Ghost of Tsushima. In addition to the story expansion, a roguelike survival mode called Most Wanted is also coming. In this mode, players will go on bounty hunts and unlock new warriors like Oyuki and Nagato. Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted will be released on October 1, 2026 for PS5.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance
Capcom had previously hinted at a floating region called Skybound Eyrie and the return of Elder Dragons like Kushala Daora for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. New footage shown at State of Play in September 2026 made this expansion clearer. This time, hunters are taken to a sun-scorched, oasis-like region.
The new footage highlighted scenes of a winged Elder Dragon confronting another, furry, and highly aggressive-looking monster bearing lightning bolts. Ascendance seems poised to take the world of Monster Hunter Wilds to a more vertical, grandiose, and dangerous level. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for release in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Metro 2039
Metro 2039 reappeared during State of Play in September 2026 with new footage. The mission of the character The Stranger had previously been revealed: to descend back into the tunnels and confront Hunter, once Artyom’s ally, who now rules Novoreich like a fascist leader. Even this setting heavily reflects the dark side of the Metro universe.
The new footage shows the ruins of a flooded Moscow and a crumbling apartment. A corpse leaning against the wall, the condensation on a gas mask, and the decaying atmosphere suggest the game will once again create a claustrophobic tension. Weapon handling also feels mechanical and heavy, in keeping with the series’ spirit; pressure gauges, glowing ammo counters, and confined space pressure are typical Metro gameplay. Metro 2039 will be released on February 4, 2027 for PS5.
Maneater 2
Tripwire’s first Maneater game introduced players to the idea of terrorizing the Gulf Coast as a thriving bull shark. Maneater 2 seems to take this wild fantasy to a bigger and more exaggerated level. The aim of the sequel isn’t just to repeat the same idea with improved graphics, but to expand the food chain far more extensively and dangerously.
The new teaser showcased a resort town perfectly suited for chaos. Water slides, a beach road, a Poseidon statue, and people swimming unaware of what’s lurking beneath the sea immediately set the tone. The trailer also showed a giant armored crab hiding in volcanic caves and a customizable mini-submarine navigating tunnels filled with lava lights. Developed in collaboration with Demiurge Studios, Maneater 2 is set to be released for PS5 in 2027.
Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown
Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, State of Play, received a short but intriguing teaser in September 2026, suggesting that the world of Pywel will open up to new areas. Pearl Abyss sent Kliff and Greymanes on a journey through Pywel in March; this new content seems to be progressing towards unexplored shores, underwater areas, and the idea of a hidden island.
The inclusion of diving suits as a pre-order bonus for Charting the Unknown, and the main visual showing an area resembling underwater ruins, strengthens this possibility. The trailer also featured an armored enemy exploding in the desert and corpses scattered across a ground illuminated by blood-red light. Pearl Abyss seems to be deliberately hiding details. Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown will be released on October 15, 2026 for PS5.
Final Fantasy Resonance
Final Fantasy Resonance was shown at State of Play in September 2026, transforming the unfinished mobile story of Brave Exvius into a console RPG. With HD-2D nostalgia, pixelated characters, chocobos, and crystals, the game attempts to carry the classic Final Fantasy spirit with a more modern presentation.
The real surprise of the new trailer was Sephiroth. His emergence from the flames, his characteristic arrogant demeanor, and his talk of inflicting despair suggest the game isn’t just a repackaged version of Brave Exvius. Resonance appears to have a larger crossover structure, bringing together heroes and villains from different eras of the series. A demo is currently available. Final Fantasy Resonance will be released on October 22, 2026 for PS5.
Gundam Rogue Orbit
Gundam Rogue Orbit, State of Play September 2026, revealed the enemy threat more clearly for the first time. At Summer Game Fest, Bandai Namco introduced the newly built universe from scratch; handing the cockpit of the Gundam Helix to the pilot RE-X, showing Sophia as the mission manager and the small green Haro V as his companion. However, the true nature of the threat was deliberately kept secret at that time.
In the new images, the enemy that RE-X will face looks much darker and different from the usual Gundam threats. Surrounded by red lightning bolts, with its fangs and ferocious nature, this entity looks almost like a living catastrophe, suggesting that the war will not be limited to mechanical combat. Gundam Rogue Orbit seems to add a stranger, hungrier, and more cosmic enemy to the Gundam universe. Gundam Rogue Orbit will be released on March 5, 2027 for PS5.
Hunter’s Moon
Hunter’s Moon, revealed by State of Play in September 2026, is a slowly escalating folk horror game. The trailer showed glimpses of an unseen threat lurking among hedges, fields, and rural roads. The game doesn’t directly reveal this presence; instead, it establishes a disturbing cult atmosphere with followers who wear animal skulls like crowns.
It’s clear that Twin Swans Limited is aiming for a slowly creeping tension rather than quick scares. Hunter’s Moon, with its veiled threat and ritualistic imagery, seems poised to offer a calmer yet more unsettling horror experience. Hunter’s Moon is scheduled for release on October 26, 2026.
Uncanyon
Uncanyon, State of Play, announced in September 2026, stands out with its watercolor-like visual style. Blue and gold tones paint the cliffs, ruined temples, and sunlit ruins, creating a strange harmony at first glance. Sonia, a purple-haired traveler, navigates this world by climbing, exploring, and conversing with strange characters she encounters.
The trailer shows Sonia asking a robed, bespectacled stranger where she is, but receiving no clear answer, highlighting the game’s sense of mystery. Uncanyon seems to prioritize evoking feelings rather than revealing its world for now. No release date has been given; only that more information will be shared in 2027.
Keeper
Double Fine’s Keeper has resurfaced with a PS5 release in September 2026, according to State of Play. Previously released on Xbox and PC, the game centers around a walking lighthouse and its seabird companion. With its dialogue-free, semi-organic, and surreal world, Keeper already offered a unique experience.
This time, the news is clear: Keeper is now available for PS5. This is a welcome addition for players who enjoy Double Fine’s quirky yet warm worlds. The game, which tells its story without dialogue, progresses through its atmosphere, and stands out with its visual language, could find its own audience on PlayStation as well.
Rev. NOiR
Konami’s Rev. NOiR was previously announced with only a brief teaser, an ambiguous atmosphere, and a story revolving around a child with amnesia and a deadly phenomenon called lightfall. A new presentation at State of Play in September 2026 revealed a bit more about the game’s structure.
The new footage shows players engaging in combat with a full party system and fighting a boss called The Visionary. Glowing astral symbols at the edges of the screen, a visual language reminiscent of a tarot deck, and a magic system reinforce the game’s dark fantasy side. Rev. NOiR is scheduled for release in 2027 and is already available to add to wishlists.
Rhapsody in Scarlet
Rhapsody in Scarlet, State of Play, revealed the jazz, lights, and stage aesthetic of 1920s New York in September 2026. But this glamorous atmosphere didn’t last long. The trailer showed a terrifying multi-fingered creature rising from the sidewalk near the Brooklyn Bridge and a city engulfed in flames, demonstrating how the game directly juxtaposes its stylish period feel with apocalyptic horror.
A female protagonist, wearing a red beret and wielding a staff, navigates through this chaos accompanied by a ghostly wolf. This image alone speaks volumes about the game’s aim: to blend the grandeur of the Prohibition era with supernatural catastrophe. Rhapsody in Scarlet is being developed for PS5 and is already available to add to your wishlist.
Until Dawn 2
Until Dawn 2, State of Play September 2026, raised the horror level even higher with new images. The game centers on a paranormal influencer team called Dead True. Initially creating content through fake ghost hunts, this team finds themselves drawn into truly inexplicable events and ancient secrets on a tropical island.
The ritualistic aspect was particularly noticeable in the new images. A rooster held over candles, choice commands that lead the player to cut their own palm, and the overall disturbing atmosphere of the scene suggest that Until Dawn 2 will utilize decision-making mechanics in harsher moments. Peter Stormare’s Dr. Hill character also returns, appearing once again as a figure whose thoughts are difficult to understand. Until Dawn 2 will be released on January 28, 2027 for PS5; pre-orders will begin on September 10, 2026.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Final Fantasy VII Revelation received a new trailer in September 2026, giving a clearer picture of its scale. Cloud’s team is seen this time scattered across desert, underwater, and mountainous regions, suggesting the game will spread out different characters, areas, and mission branches within the same larger storyline rather than flowing in a single line.
The new footage highlights chocobos running across the sands of Corel, the Cockatrice taken down during battle, Yuffie’s skirmishes with Cid and Vincent on the Shinra ship, and the Queen’s Blood subplot set in Wutai’s Baihu Ward. Regina waiting for Yuffie at the Shadowblood Court suggests the card game aspect will also become more central to the story. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released on April 8, 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
