SteamDB and Nexus Mods have Decided to Join Forces
A significant change is happening at SteamDB, a platform frequently used by PC gamers to track game releases, update history, repositories, manifest files, and similar technical data. xPaw, one of the platform’s co-founders, stated that the maintenance and development burden he has been carrying out alone for years has become increasingly difficult, and he wants to hand over SteamDB to a reliable team. As a result of this process, it was decided that the platform would join Nexus Mods.
SteamDB Will Continue to Be Developed Under the Nexus Mods Umbrella
According to xPaw, the most important issue was finding a team that understood the value SteamDB holds for the community and shared a similar approach. Nexus Mods reportedly met this expectation. Following the handover, SteamDB’s name, identity, and core operational logic will remain unchanged. In the short term, the site structure that users are accustomed to is planned to continue as is.
During the transition, xPaw will continue to work with the Nexus Mods team. The goal is to ensure a seamless transfer of SteamDB’s existing systems. In the long term, Nexus Mods aims to address development issues that would otherwise be hampered by the limitations of a single person, expand game coverage, and make the platform’s technical infrastructure more sustainable.
SteamDB has relied on community-donated Steam keys to track some game files. This system will continue, but Nexus Mods will also begin directly funding a portion of the necessary game keys. This is expected to allow for tracking more games and release changes.
The merger will also directly benefit Nexus Mods. Since whether mods work often depends on the version of the game they are using, SteamDB’s detailed version tracking can be integrated into the mod manager. This will make it easier for users to understand whether an update breaks specific mods. The aim is not to merge the two platforms into a single site, but rather to preserve SteamDB’s existing structure while providing stronger team support in the background.
