Acer Project DualPlay Mini Brings a New Form to the Gaming World
At IFA 2026, Acer showcased Project DualPlay Mini, one of its most unusual concepts to date. The 8-inch device resembles a classic portable gaming PC at first glance, but it can transform into a small laptop by rotating the screen. While similar hybrid devices have been attempted by other manufacturers before, Acer uses a different mechanism that hides the physical keyboard directly within the body.
Acer Project DualPlay Mini Offers Two Different Usage Modes
In handheld mode, the device can be used like a traditional portable gaming system with physical controls located on either side of the screen. When the screen is rotated to laptop mode, a backlit physical keyboard is revealed. Acer believes this arrangement could be advantageous, especially for players who need more precise input in FPS and MOBA games.
Project DualPlay Mini isn’t solely focused on gaming. The device can connect to external displays and supports productivity scenarios similar to desktop use. However, the keyboard is quite small due to the 8-inch body, potentially creating some ergonomic limitations for prolonged typing or work use.
Acer is currently quite secretive about the technical specifications. It has been confirmed that the device will use an Intel processor, but the model has not been revealed. In terms of cooling, it features a dual-fan system: one Predator AeroBlade metal fan and the other a more traditional plastic fan.
Project DualPlay Mini is also a special concept celebrating Acer’s 50th anniversary. The back features the phrase “Acer 50 since 1976” in Morse code. Currently presented as a concept, no price or release date has been announced. Therefore, it’s not yet certain whether DualPlay Mini will become a commercial product.
