Rockstar has become one of the most talked-about topics in the gaming world lately. Following the attack by the hacker group ShinyHunters, all eyes were on the company. As expected, the data in the group’s possession was publicly released. While it might seem like a major crisis at first glance, the revealed content doesn’t appear to be as shocking as the rumors suggested. Nevertheless, this event is likely to spark new discussions about data security and internal company information in the gaming industry.
What Does the Rockstar Data Show?
An examination of the leaked data reveals that there are no major surprises regarding the most anticipated details of new games. The lack of significant information, particularly about Grand Theft Auto VI, largely confirms Rockstar’s previous statement that “there is no significant data.” This suggests the leak is primarily focused on financial and operational data.
The most striking point is the revenue figures for GTA Online. The game generates approximately $9.6 million in weekly revenue, and this figure approaches $500 million annually. In contrast, Red Dead Online’s revenue remains significantly more limited. This clearly demonstrates why Rockstar has long focused its attention on GTA Online.
Platform distribution data presents a similarly interesting picture. While PlayStation 5 leads in both player count and revenue, PC performance lags behind expectations. Even the older generation Xbox One outperforms PC in some areas, a significant indicator of player behavior.
Looking at the revenue model, it’s clear that the system relies heavily on microtransactions. The fact that Shark Card sales account for approximately 75% of total revenue, with a significant portion coming from a small player base, clearly demonstrates how the in-game economy is structured. This data also highlights the significant influence of high-spending players within the system.
