God of War, released in 2018, marked a radical transformation for the series by moving Kratos from Greek mythology to Norse mythology. With its unique camera angles, narrative style, and father-son theme, the game received rave reviews from both critics and players, becoming one of the most talked-about games of the PlayStation 4 era.

God of War: Ragnarök, released in 2022, built upon this foundation with a broader story, new gameplay systems, and even more epic boss battles. Released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC, it reached a wider audience and boosted sales.

The series’ renewed attention following recent announcements at State of Play is no coincidence. Its $1.4 billion in revenue further proves that God of War is one of PlayStation’s strongest brands, not only critically but commercially.
