The Legend of Khiimori has been Compared to Death Stranding Due to It’s New Gameplay

The upcoming early access game, The Legend of Khiimori, has sparked considerable discussion among players following the release of a new gameplay video. Set in 13th-century Mongolia, the game’s horseback delivery-based gameplay reminds many players of Death Stranding, while its slow-paced and planning-focused structure is also noteworthy.

The Legend of Khiimori Gameplay Compared to Death Stranding

The approximately five-minute gameplay video shows players setting out from an outpost and choosing which deliveries to undertake. The map is vast, vibrant, and features dynamic weather conditions. Snowstorms, mountainous terrain, and sudden weather changes make preparation before the journey almost mandatory.

Players determine their own routes; they must choose between safer but longer paths and shorter but riskier routes. These choices are made considering factors such as wild animals in the terrain, food resources, and the horse’s stamina. Carrying hay, preparing tonics, and arrows to ward off animals is vital.

In The Legend of Khiimori, not only the load but also its balance is important. Incorrect distribution of saddlebags can cause the horse to lose its balance and fall. Furthermore, setting up camp, caring for the horse, and choosing the right mount are fundamental parts of the gameplay. These details indicate that the game deliberately offers a slow and thought-provoking pace.

Among the planned systems, although not yet shown in the gameplay video, is a horse breeding mechanic. Inspired by real-life horse breeds, this system, along with exploring ruins, encountering spiritual beings, and unlocking equipment based on courier rank, expands the game’s scope. The Legend of Khiimori will be released in early access on March 3, 2026.
